Where the evidence is strongest.
NearbyCheck can search any Canadian destination, but request-time municipal coverage is not blanket coverage. These are the sources the pilot currently treats as connected, plus the gaps it deliberately leaves visible.
Mississauga
Request-time facility coverage: washrooms, parking, dog areas, playgrounds, picnic areas, parks, libraries and community/recreation facilities where the connected municipal source supports the claim.
Current-condition layer: connected Mississauga closure information is checked for matching source-backed results. No matching notice does not prove a facility is open.
Toronto
Request-time facility coverage: park/street washrooms, drinking water, dog areas, playgrounds, picnic areas, parks and selected community facilities.
Known gap: request-time Toronto parking is intentionally disabled because the previously connected official layer did not respond reliably enough for NearbyCheck to present it as current parking evidence.
Current-condition layer: connected Toronto condition information is checked where jurisdiction and result evidence match.
Oakville
Request-time facility coverage: washrooms, parking, playgrounds, libraries and community facilities where Town of Oakville facility records make the capability explicit.
Current-condition gap: NearbyCheck does not yet have a normalized Oakville current-condition layer, so current access stays explicitly unverified.
Burlington
Request-time facility coverage: washrooms, libraries and community facilities where City of Burlington facility records make the capability explicit.
Current-condition gap: NearbyCheck does not yet have a normalized Burlington current-condition layer. Mixed maintenance/facility categories are not treated as washrooms unless the record itself makes the washroom claim explicit.
Ontario highway and rest-area washrooms
Official dated snapshots: NearbyCheck includes selected Ontario 511 rest-area and ONroute service-centre locations where the official record explicitly lists Lavatory = Y.
The washroom evidence belongs to the service-centre/rest-area location. Food tenants listed at an ONroute — such as a cafe or fast-food brand — are not automatically treated as having their own public washroom. Ontario 511 status and year-round fields also do not guarantee that a lavatory is usable at this exact moment.
Private businesses
NearbyCheck does not assume that a restaurant, cafe, gas station, mall or chain location has a usable public washroom. Business existence, washroom existence, access rules and current usability are separate claims.
Commercial/private-place coverage is added only from sources with acceptable reuse rights and exact-location washroom evidence. Crowdsourced evidence is shown as reported/conditional rather than silently upgraded to verified. A McDonald's or Tim Hortons location is never included merely because other branches commonly have washrooms.
Other Canadian destinations
Place search works nationally, but outside connected municipal zones NearbyCheck may only have dated official-source snapshots — or no useful evidence at all. Snapshot evidence is labeled as such and expires under the product freshness rules rather than being presented as live municipal data.
Needs that are deliberately not exposed yet
NearbyCheck does not expose Alerts as a place capability; connected alerts belong to the current-condition evidence layer. Cooling-station selection is also withheld until the product can distinguish a listed cooling location from one that is actually activated and usable now.
Coverage expands only when source identity, update behavior, uncertainty and ongoing maintenance are understood. A larger pin count is not treated as an upgrade if the evidence quality gets worse.
